Original Short Dollhouse Accessories: Arrangement Ideas

Adding a Mood

Great designers know that in order to have a good layout and design you need to strive for the appropriate mood. Each room has a mood, meaning that there are some underlying purposes for which you would have that room. A great example is a play room where the sole purpose of the room is to have fun and enjoy oneself. A bedroom would have a personal setting to illustrate the mood of that individual and help them feel comfortable. Those dollhouses that are awe inspiring tap into the settings and mood of each room to design it. Visualize what mood you would like to portray in your rooms, for what purposes would they have that room and what particular mood would they set. The more you can portray the appropriate move, the more you will convince your friends and family your great skills as a miniaturist.

Size: Very Important in Design

When setting up your dollhouse and buying furniture you will need to remember the three sizing constraints. The first one is the scale of the furniture, second is the size of the room, and third is the relative size of the furniture as it compares to other pieces of furniture. Miniature scaling refers to the fact that dolls and their furniture come in different sizing patterns. Meaning, look up the miniature size of your dollhouse kit, if it is one inch scale then you need to buy one inch furniture The second size element, sizing up the room, means that you are not getting furniture that will not fit in the room. Take out a ruler and measure the square inches of the room and compare it to your incoming furniture dimensions. Finally, relative or comparative size is the size of the furniture in relation to other pieces in the set. This means that each set has its own symmetry of size, larger, medium, and smaller pieces should coordinate together in a pattern that makes sense.

Designing the Outside of Your Dollhouse Kit

Once you have completed your inside design, it is time to look again at the exterior design and some ways to make it look better. The first thing that everybody looks at is the paint and the shingles. When you are setting up your dollhouse apply a good three coats of good craft paint to your dollhouse. The shingles should be died and applied carefully using a ruler to assure that the lines are straight. In addition to the paint and shingles a couple of accessories like a barbeque or bird house will add to the attractiveness. The exterior can even house subtle designs like a rock walkway, fountains, or flowers. Lighting is another addition that will really help the look of the outside features. Lights around the porch are the most common, if you have a gazebo place a light in the center so that the light will shine down through.

Using an Artists Color Wheel for your Benefit

Color will be the over ruling design medium for your dollhouse furniture and design choices. The desire to coordinate is known throughout any art or design school and is taught at a basic level using a color wheel. When you are looking at a color wheel, it looks almost like someone took a rainbow and connected the arch into a circle. The colors right next to each other are called analogous colors, and offer slight similarities for color patterns, and those opposite offer the most contrast and pop. This by no means is a full explanation of the science of color, but a mere push to get you thinking in the right direction for your dollhouse coordination.
